<p><strong>CURRENTLY INACTIVE</strong></p>
<p>Welcome to the Smith College Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Team! We are a group of Smithies who love to grapple in a safe and positive environment. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art focused on ground grappling. It was developed with the goal of creating a fighting form where size and strength do not matter. It utilizes body weight physics instead of pure strength, and it is a submission martial art, so you win by making your opponent "tap out". In addition, it has many applications in self-defense and MMA.</p>
<p>In this club, we will be learning the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu in a safe and comfortable environment. Newcomers are welcome and encouraged to come!</p>
<p>Meetings are Wednesday 3:30 - 5 pm and Sundays 4-6 pm in the rockclimbing gym! <br />Hope to see you on the mats!</p>

<p id="yui_3_17_2_1_1675391201105_225" class="">Matriculate is a non-profit organization that strives to help thousands of incredibly talented and high-achieving, low-income high school students who miss the chance to attend some of the top colleges simply because they do not apply.&nbsp;This lost opportunity means that these top students may attend colleges where they ultimately pay more and do not receive the support that they deserve, leading to lower grades and graduation rates, as well as more debt.</p>
<p class="">This is a problem that Matriculate seeks to solve&ndash;but only with the help of our college student Advising Fellows</p>

<p class="">Help high school students identify colleges that are a good fit; complete essays, resumes, recommendations and application forms; apply for financial aid and compare packages; and prepare academically, socially, and emotionally to succeed in college.</p>

<p>Sátya is the official Philosophy Journal of Smith College. The journal is student-led and peer-reviewed. The ethos of Sátya is to reflect Smith College’s philosophy department which is multidisciplinary and multicultural. The purpose of Sátya is to promote
philosophical discourse and thought. Sátya is dedicated to providing its readers with quality works that make philosophy accessible to a wide audience. Undergraduates from all five college institutions are invited to submit their work for review. Sátya welcomes

<p>College students have been at the forefront of social change throughout history, and they have the power to make the world a better place now while also shaping the future. MASSPIRG provides the training, professional support and resources Smithies need
to create a better, more sustainable future for all of us. At Smith, we are affiliated with MASSPIRG, a student action and training program that has been helping student activists get organized, mobilized and energized for over 50 years. Smith PIRG's main
campaigns focus on making textbooks more affordable, registering young people to vote, and combating hunger and homelessness in our community! We spend the school year fundraising, hosting events, working with Smith and local community members and volunteering.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Smith College's very own Shakespeare company! Our goal is to make Shakespeare and Early Modern dramatic literature more accessible to the Smith and greater Pioneer Valley community with free performances (though we appreciate donations).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Smith College Tap Ensemble is an organization dedicated to tap dance and tap dance lovers. We're entirely student-run and collaborative; members lead warm-ups, teach classes, and choreograph for the group.</p>
<p>We meet once a week, and meetings are divided into two parts: a beginner class and an intermediate+ rehearsal. In the beginner class, beginner tappers (and anyone else who wants to come) learn how to tap. In the intermediate+ portion, we learn combinations, teach each other new steps, and rehearse for performances.</p>
<p>We're open to all Five College students and faculty and we welcome all skill levels - from complete beginners to very experienced tappers! Active members should come to as many meetings as they can, but it's totally okay to not be able to commit to every week!</p>

We host birdwatching in the mornings and afternoons on campus, bird art nights, and field trips when possible. The YCL is a mass organization, meaning it accepts everyone looking to fight for a better world.
