<p>The Center for Religious and Spiritual Life is an interreligious, nondenominational body that promotes spiritual flourishing for all students, religious and nonreligious alike. Our areas of focus are ethical reflection, social and racial justice and civic engagement, mindfulness and contemplative practice, and community building based in dialogue and respect. We provide resources grounded in different faith and wisdom traditions, and strive to raise religious literacy and promote interfaith engagement toward a more inclusive, just and engaged citizenry. <p>Our mission at the class deans office is to help you make the most of your time at Smith. The<strong>&nbsp;</strong>class dean&nbsp;is responsible for your overall academic program.&nbsp;You are encouraged to see your dean privately throughout the year regarding any issue, whether academic or personal. <p>The Counseling Service provides a range of free services including consultation, diagnostic assessments, individual and group counseling, psychiatric assessments, trans-affirming documentation, education/outreach, identity-affirming care, crisis intervention, and off campus referrals. Our care is provided both on campus and in cooperation with community based mental health providers. Our clinicians represent a range of visible and invisible identities along the lines or race, gender, sexuality, ability, culture, religion, immigrant, first-gen status, and more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Welcome to the Gaming Lab! The Gaming Lab was founded in 2018 by <a href="https://www.smith.edu/academics/faculty/jennifer-malkowski"> Professor Jen Malkowski</a>, associate professor of Film and Media Studies.</p>
<p>Community members get to play all sorts of video games, ranging from Triple-A esports, 1990s arcade games, indie games, and more. We've got something for everyone here! Other than Film and Media Studies, video games can inspire interdisciplinary projects with Studio Art, Computer Science, Education, Women and Gender Studies, and much more.</p>
<p>The Gaming Lab is managed by student Lab Assistants, who will help you pick out a game, set up your game, and make sure you don't run into any technical issues! If you'd like to know more about our open hours, then please check out our Open Hours page! It can vary from semester to semester.</p>

The Louise W. and Edmund J. Kahn Liberal Arts Institute supports collaborative research among Smith faculty, staff and students, Five College faculty, and visiting scholars—all without regard to the traditional boundaries of departments, programs and academic divisions. Each year the institute supports long- and short-term projects that are proposed, planned and organized by Smith College faculty. Kahn Fellows work together on topics that are broad enough to encompass a variety of disciplinary perspectives and fo­cused enough for a meaningful investigation.

<p>The Phoebe and John D. Lewis Global Studies Center serves as a home base for international students, scholars, activists and visiting professors. Housing the Office for International Study and the Office for International Students and Scholars, the center provides a setting where international and domestic students and faculty educate each other about their languages and cultures. <p>Positioned as a student advocated partner of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, a branch of the Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Department, the Mwangi Cultural Center is an important cornerstone on campus, providing a physical space for cultural organizations and students of color to engage in holistic programming, host intellectually enriching discussions, and effectively build community.</p>
<p>The Mwangi Cultural Center opened as the Afro-American Cultural Center on the lower level of Lilly Hall in 1968 and was used by a variety of student cultural organizations. In 1973 the center was renamed to honor Dr. Ng'endo Mwangi, a member of the class of 1961 and the first female physician in Kenya, whose dedication and service to her community were well known. At the time of Ng'endo's death in 1989, Smith students wrote "We, the Smith students of today, owe Mwangi a great debt for being one of the vanguard of women who broke down racial and gender barriers, thereby making our progress a little easier."</p>

<p>The cultural organizations that make up the Unity umbrella serve as a network of support for their members.&nbsp; Unity organizations share meeting and workroom space in Unity House and the Mwangi Cultural Center. Throughout the academic year, Unity organizations sponsor fine arts forums, conferences, cultural celebrations, workshops and other activities, just to name a few, such as Mehndi Night, Rhythm Nations, Asian Tea House, Five College Pa&rsquo;lante, Pan-African Conference, Kwanzaa Celebration, Chinese Moon Festival, Taste of Latin America and Unity Fall Festival.</p>
<h3><strong>Unity Presidents&rsquo; Council</strong></h3>
<p>The Unity Presidents&rsquo; Council (UPC) comprises the chairs and co-chairs of all 11 Unity organizations. The council meets every week to collaborate, focus on leadership development, and hear and address concerns.</p>
<h4>Asian Students&rsquo; Association (ASA)</h4>
<p>ASA provides a support network for Asian and Asian Pacific American students and&nbsp;serves as a link to other Asian Pacific American organizations at the Five Colleges. ASA hosts a variety of collaborative events each year, highlighted by an Asian Teahouse and a fall conference.</p>
<h4>Black Students&rsquo; Alliance (BSA)</h4>
<p>The BSA is the oldest of the&nbsp;Unity organizations, and its membership comprises students from many different backgrounds. BSA promotes cultural, social and political awareness throughout the Smith community and has developed&nbsp;strong intercollegiate bonds between all the black student organizations in the Five College area.</p>

<p>CSA holds cultural events that spread the spirit of Chinese culture through language, food, art and entertainment. CSA celebrates and increases awareness of Chinese holidays, traditions&nbsp;and culture at Smith and the Five Colleges.</p>
<h4>South Asian Student Association of Smith (EKTA)</h4>
<p>EKTA&mdash;"unity" in several languages spoken in South Asia&mdash;is a support network for South Asian students. Its members seek to create an awareness and understanding of the identity and culture of South Asia within the community at large through educational, cultural and social programs.</p>
<h4>Indigenous Smith Students and Allies (ISSA)</h4>
<p>ISSA is committed to educating the Smith community about social, economic and cultural issues affecting the Native American populations of the United States.&nbsp;</p>
<h4>International Students&rsquo; Organization (ISO)</h4>
<p>ISO is a haven for international students at Smith and those interested in exploring international affairs from a cultural, political and a social perspective. ISO is a support system for international students at Smith but also seeks to educate and engage the community in appreciating the diversity and unique experiences international students bring to the Smith community.</p>
<h4>Korean Students&rsquo; Association (KSA)</h4>
<p>KSA is a support network for all Korean and Korean American students at Smith, strengthening&nbsp;ties among Asian and Asian American students while addressing specific needs and concerns that support all women of color and the Smith community at large.</p>
<h4>Latin American Students&rsquo; Organization (LASO)</h4>
<p>LASO provides a support network for Latinas. LASO encourages an active cultural exchange between women of different Latina origins and an openness to any Smith student. The group&nbsp;promotes an awareness of social justice issues facing Latinas on campus as well as in the rest of the world.&nbsp;</p>
<h4>Multiethnic Interracial Smith College (MISC)</h4>
<p>MISC promotes awareness, discussion, acknowledgement, acceptance and celebration of multiethnic persons, interracial families and relationships, and cross-cultural experiences.</p>

<p>The Program for the Study of Women and Gender examines gender, race, class and sexuality as important and simultaneous aspects of social worlds and human lives. This examination requires inquiry into the construction and operation of power relations, social inequalities and resistances to them in both national and transnational contexts.</p>
<p>We understand that the terms "women," "gender", "feminism," "queer," "masculinity" and "transgender" are politicized. As categories of analysis, they help reveal how subjects become racialized, sexualized, gendered and class-located.</p>
<p>Building on its origins in women's studies, our program continues to examine the experiences, ideologies, works and actions of women in a variety of national, cultural, historical and political contexts. As an interdisciplinary endeavor, the Program for the Study of Women and Gender shows students how different academic disciplines view the operation of gender in the labor market, the family, political systems and cultural production. Research and theory emerge from these everyday realities and feminist theory, in turn, informs our analysis of political choices. The study of women and gender is joined to an understanding of the forms of activism around the globe.</p>
